Cyclones Earn 2 Conference Wins
On Friday the Cyclones hosted the Riverland Blue Devils and finished 3-1; 25-12, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22. Karlee Kern, first year outside hitter from BBE led in kills with 12, followed by Chloe Callahan, second year outside from Maple Lake, with 10. First year setters, Kalli Mathiasen from Apollo and Ally Bushendorf from Eau Claire, both ran the offense with 20 set assists each. Payton Thompson, second year defensive specialist from Big Lake, defended the court with 12 digs. This was also the Cyclones' Cancer Awareness Match, in which, they raised over $1,600 in shirt sales and donations. The money raised went to St Cloud Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The Cyclones also honored 2012 volleyball alum and surgical tech graduate, Krista Pilarski, who fought and beat ovarian cancer earlier this year.
On Saturday the Cyclones started the morning by participating in the St Cloud Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at St Cloud State University. The Cyclones then faced the Cavaliers of Western Tech and earned another win 3-0; 25-11, 25-18, 25-17. Leading in kills was Kaitlyn Johnson, first year rightside hitter from Crosby-Ironton, with 9 kills, followed by Callahan with 6. Setters, Mathiasen and Bushendorf, earned a combined 33 set assists. Chelsea Schroeder, first year defensive specialist from Rocori, led in digs with 9. Whitney Haney, first year middle from BOLD, held the net with 3 blocks.
The Cyclones travel to Anoka next week, October 20-21, for a MCAC Cross-over tournament.
