Cyclones Fall to Ridgewater in MCAC South Region Tournament
The St Cloud Technical and Community College closed their 2016 season in the first match of the MCAC South Region Tournament on Friday falling to the Warriors of Ridgewater who advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament.
The Cyclones had a strong season finishing 18-11 overall, only falling to nationally ranked or Division II opponents. Season statistical leaders for the Cyclones include Kalie Jergens, first year outside hitter from Becker, led the season in kills with 217 (2.8 per set), also leading the team with a .234 hitting percentage.
Chelsea Schroeder, first year defensive specialist from Rocori, led in digs with 329, (4.22 digs per set). Leading in blocks was first year middle from BOLD, Whitney Haney, earning 38 blocks on the season.
Running our 6-2 offense, Ally Bushendorf, first year setter from Eau Claire, led in set assists with 501, followed by Mathiasen with 423 set assists. Bushendorf also led in service aces with 60, (.6 aces per set) and now holds the Cyclone record.
The Cyclones broke several additional records this season including the Aces per Match and Set record on October 21st versus Rainy River earning 27 aces (6.8 per set). On September 14th versus Ridgewater, Schroeder broke the Digs per Set record with 35 digs. The 2016 Cyclones also broke team season records in Kills (1,174), Set Assists (1,011) and Aces (286).
As she closes her 6th season with the Cyclones, Coach Smith states "This was a very special team. We were small but made up for it in defense and tenacity. We had amazing leadership which will be difficult to replace. We had a great group of young women willing to work hard for each other instead of themselves, which naturally creates strong team chemisty."
